This Māori Poi Kit is the most creative way to reuse a t-shirt and wool offcuts to make traditional poi!

• T-shirt yarn for braid (He taura tīhāte hei taura mō ngā poi)
• T-shirt yarn for tassels (He taura tīhāte hei ngore mō ngā poi)

Sustainability

Upcycling is creative reuse through reviving old materials or unwanted items into new materials or products of better quality and better environmental value. Upcycling takes items out of the disposal pattern, has a near to zero carbon emissions, and prevents the purchase of new products. The materials used for these poi are discards and offcuts that would otherwise be destined for landfill.  The price of the poi incorporates the Living Wage as a minimum and the Re-Creators are an accredited Living Wage employer.

About The Re-Creators

The ReCreators is a social enterprise based in Auckland, New Zealand, which promotes upcycling by learning to do it yourself (DIY) through community workshops, through purchasing pre-made products or by collaborating on a custom circular design. The Re-Creators believe that making with reclaimed materials promotes positive mental wellbeing as well as protecting Papatūānuku (the Earth Mother).

About Para Kore ki Tāmaki

Para Kore ki Tāmaki works with Māori to minimise waste in Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland). Working in collaboration with marae and whānau (family), Para Kore kaimahi (staff) provide guidance and education on ecological restoration as well as deliver zero-waste workshops and provide resources as part of a programme towards waste minimization. Their programs acknowledges the mana of Papatūānuku (Earth Mother), and all aspects of nature, social, physical and material worlds. The health of people and wellbeing of Papatūānuku (Earth Mother) and Ranginui (Sky Father) is at the heart of Para Kore initiatives.
